Amalie Jakobsen investigates the relationship between human civilisation and mechanisms of nature in its purest in sculptures that challenges the perfect balancing point.
This exhibition ‘Carrying Capacity’ for Politikens Forhal consists of four large-scale sculptures in steel and aluminum all based on the ellipse. Here form and color in time and space unite with a call for a new world order where human become the change, we want for ourselves and our planet.
The sculptures point toward some of the greatest challenges of our time represented through the Diatom algae that is central to the air we breathe; the sand from Jakobabad in Pakistan, one of the warmest inhabited place on earth, the synthetic black meteor soil extracted from mining in space; and the red pigment from eatable insects.
With this exhibition, Amalie Jakobsen highlights an important topic concerning human consumption of our natural resources and the never-ending need for technological progression. The artist seeks to capture and comprehend what is happening to our planet, yet without completely losing faith in what the future will bring.
’Carrying Capacity’ af Amalie Jakobsen is on view at Politikens Forhal and on City Hall Square in Copenhagen from 15. May – 15. August 2020.
