The sculpture ‘Maffei 1’ was created by the Danish contemporary artist Amalie Jakobsen in collaboration with Gether Contemporary and Politikens Forhal in relation to the exhibition ‘Carrying Capacity’, which could be experienced at Politikens Forhal from 15 May – 15 August in 2020.

The work consists of four identical ellipses, which are collided into a balancing composition. It is painted with a signal red color and is named after an existing elliptical galaxy in outer space. The sculpture is created in an edition of 25, all of which are hand-painted by the artist and only sold from Politikens Forhal and Gether Contemporary.
