A 6-metre-tall sculpture commissioned by the Poul Erik Bech Foundation and gifted to the city of Varde, Denmark.

Osculating Orbit (VIII/dark blue) explores the subtle yet powerful relationships between massive bodies in motion. The sculpture is part of my ongoing Osculating Orbits series, inspired by astronomical phenomena—particularly the moments when two orbital paths approach each other without colliding. They simply graze one another, like a cosmic kiss.

Its composition unfolds as a star-like structure, with elliptical orbits converging around a central point. This geometry emphasizes both the dynamic nature of the work and its connection to the movements and patterns of the universe.

Although constructed from steel, the sculpture balances material weight with visual lightness. It appears almost weightless, as if suspended in space. Its deep blue colour evokes the vastness of the cosmos, the stillness of the night sky, and the rich blue tones of Denmark’s North Sea.

The work invites visitors to step inside the sculpture and look upward through its intersecting forms toward the expansive West Jutland sky. In doing so, the viewer becomes part of the work—experiencing a physical and poetic encounter with attraction, energy, proximity, gravity, and lightness existing in delicate balance.
